Class Volunteers
Help Make the 2026 J/24 Epigen World Championship a Success
Major regattas take a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes, and we rely on a dedicated team of volunteers to help make them a success. If you’re not sailing but would still like to be involved, we’d love to have your support.
The Pre-Worlds Regatta will be held from 31 October to 1 November 2026, followed by Measurement Days from 4–6 November, and the J/24 Epigen World Championship from 7–11 November 2026. Volunteers are needed throughout this entire period.
Whether you’re available for the full event or just a few days, every contribution is valuable and greatly appreciated. You’ll be joining a fantastic team of like-minded people who enjoy working together and being part of these exciting regattas. Full training and support will be provided for all roles, so previous experience is not essential.
Volunteer Opportunities
Measurement Team
All boats and sails must be measured and approved before racing begins. Volunteers will assist with measuring sails, weighing boats and helping competitors through the process during Measurement Days from 4–6 November.
No prior experience is required, as all duties and procedures will be explained and supervised by the measurement team leaders.
Information Officer
Our Information Officers help visitors, competitors and support crews find the information they need throughout the event.
This role involves assisting at an information desk, answering questions about the regatta schedule, club facilities and local services. Volunteers will be most valuable during Measurement Days, competitor arrivals and the opening days of racing.
If you enjoy helping people and providing a friendly welcome, this is an excellent role.
Social Event team
We plan to have a number of social events during the regatta period and we do need helpers to help co-ordinate and organise a myriad of items to bring this all off.
This is going to be a fun team to be on, there’s so much going on.
Logistics Team
The Logistics Team helps keep the event running smoothly behind the scenes.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with vehicle and trailer parking
- Organising boat storage areas
- Supporting launching and retrieval operations
- Helping with general event logistics and site organisation
This is a practical, hands-on role that is vital to the success of the regatta.
Competitor Registration
Every skipper and crew member must complete registration before competing.
Registration volunteers assist competitors with:
- Verification of regatta documentation
- Crew weigh-ins
- Distribution of event information
- General registration enquiries
This role suits organised people who enjoy interacting with competitors and helping ensure everything is ready for racing.
Overseas Team Chaperones
Teams will be travelling to Melbourne from around the world, and many competitors will be unfamiliar with our club, the local area and Australia.
We would like to assign volunteer chaperones to visiting teams to help provide a warm welcome and assist with local knowledge throughout their stay.
This is a wonderful opportunity to meet sailors from around the world, build lasting friendships and help create an unforgettable championship experience. Volunteers in this role should ideally be available for the duration of the regatta period.
Transport Driver
Working closely with the Logistics Team and Chaperones, Drivers play a key role in supporting the transportation needs of competitors, officials, and event personnel throughout the regatta.
Responsibilities may include airport transfers, providing local transportation, and assisting with the movement of people and equipment as required.
Strong communication skills, reliability, and a people-focused approach are highly valued in this role.
Join the Team
These are important yet rewarding roles, and you’ll be working alongside a friendly team of people who enjoy making things happen.
Whether you can volunteer for a single day or the entire championship period, your assistance will make a real difference to the success of the event.
We’ll provide all the training and support you need so you can feel confident in your role, regardless of your previous experience.
